Rogelio Martinez was born in 1924 in Puerto Plata, Republica Dominicana in a small village of about 1,500 habitants called Rio Grande. Within his and neighboring villages, he was a well known young man for his courteousness, the horses he owned, his love for music and of course, his exquisite rolled cigars. Dressed in fine suits and a skillful equestrian, it is no rumor he was quite the charmer as well. On the pursuit of a better life, Rogelio left Rio Grande for the big city of Santo Domingo and never returned. In 1940 he had joined the military and by the ‘60s remarried for the 4th and last time to Thelma Fernandez, with whom he had 2 boys; his youngest of five children. When the ‘80s rolled in, they took off to New York where he retired. Later he and Thelma moved with their sons, whom were married by then, to South Florida. After an adventure, love and joy filled life, he passed away from age in 2013, he was 89 years old.
